We are privileged to have three Christian Aid partners from Israel, Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territory visiting Scotland on Wednesday 19 March 2025.

Please join us from 2-3:30pm in Augustine United Church, Edinburgh or online, to hear more about the current situation in the holy land and how Christian Aid and our partners are responding.   

We will be welcoming Leila El Ali, the Executive Director of Association Najdah, which is a development charity that works with Palestinian women and children refugees in Lebanon.

We will also hear from Dr. Hassan Jabareen, the General Director of Adalah: The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel. As well as Peter Nasir, General Secretary of EJ-YMCA (The East Jerusalem Young Men's Christian Association), which is a Palestinian community-based organisation working to empower youth and communities.

Leila El Ali, Executive Director of Association Najdah; Najdah is a development NGO that works with Palestinian women and children refugees in Lebanon

Leila El Ali is a Palestinian Refugee feminist and political activist. She is a gender advisor and a promoter of Palestinian national and human rights with a particular focus on women. She was the vice- President of the General Union of Palestinian Students in Lebanon between (1990-2004). El Ali is the executive director of Association Najdeh. Leila has been the Co-President of Euro Med Feminist Initiative (EFI-IEF) since 2014, (EFI is a Euro Med feminist policy and advocacy network that gathers more than 24 women’s rights NGOs from Middle East, Europe, and Balkan). She has been a member of Advisory Committee of the Faculty of Arts at Beirut Arab University since 2017. El Ali is a central and national Palestinian member of PLO.

Dr. Hasan Jabareen, General Director of Adalah; The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel. Working to promote and defend the rights of the Palestinian minority across Israel and the oPT

Hassan is the General Director of Adalah. He holds a PhD in Law. Over the last 30 years, he has litigated scores of landmark constitutional law cases regarding the rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel, including the Palestinian leadership in Israel, and international humanitarian law cases concerning Palestinians in the 1967 Occupied Territory before the Israeli Supreme Court. He has received several awards for outstanding public interest lawyering and top human rights law prizes Hassan is also an adjunct lecturer in the Faculty Law at Tel Aviv University, and has published several academic articles on the citizenship status of the Palestinians. Hassan was a Yale World Fellow; a Senior Robina Law Fellow at Yale Law School; a research fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin; and a visiting scholar at Columbia University Law School.

Peter Nasir, General Secretary of EJ-YMCA; The East Jerusalem Young Men's Christian Association is a Palestinian community-based organisation which is working to empower youth and communities through programmes such as economic empowerment, mental health, advocacy, youth participation, and women's empowerment

Born and raised in the East Jerusalem Peter Nasir has is the General Secretary of the East Jerusalem YMCA, serving in his post since 2019. Previously a board member of the East Jerusalem YMCA for 6 years and member of the executive committee of the World Alliance of YMCAs. Peter holds an MA degree in Business Administration from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and BA degree in Computer Science from Emory University. Worked for civil society organizations after graduating, eventually resigning and becoming a successful entrepreneur opened both Azure restaurant and Lavender Boutique hotel in Ramallah.
