Want to put your faith into action and call for climate justice?

Join us for 6 months as a Climate Campaign Organiser! You’ll build power for change in your local church and community as we stand with people living in poverty around the world.

What will Climate Campaign Organisers get up to?

Over 6 months you’ll receive training and support to carry out a Climate Justice Action Plan to get your local church or community group campaigning for climate justice.  As a cohort you’ll grow and develop your agency and leadership in making change happen.

By building power, I witnessed young people in the church community coming together with their skills and voices to take action for the first time!

- Oluwaferanmi Adeyemo, Campaign Organiser, London.

What we’ll provide:

  • An introduction to climate justice and faith in activism
  • Training in community organising, campaign principles and campaign tools
  • One to one mentoring and support as you carry out your action plan
  • Regular opportunities to meet as a cohort
  • Campaign materials and resources

What you'll be doing:

  • Participating in the life of the Climate Campaign Organiser community
  • Building relationships with people in your church and community
  • Creating your own Climate Justice Campaign Action Plan
  • Organising campaign events, activities and actions in your local area

About you!

We are looking for people who are passionate about pursuing climate justice from across the UK. Whether you have some campaigning under your belt or you’re just getting started we want to hear from you.

Campaign Organisers are self-motivated but spend lots of time working with other people, building relationships and getting others involved so it’s vital you enjoy working with others. We’re all about collaboration, so we’re open to more than one person applying from the same area, church or group.

You’ll need:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to network and be comfortable speaking with others
  • An interest in climate change and campaigning for justice
  • The ability to motivate and enable others to participate
  • To be a member of either a church, an existing community group or University where you can bring people together to take action
  • Access to a computer and the internet, with ability to participate in zoom calls, and basic IT skills

What you’ll gain:

  • Increased confidence to put your faith into action through campaigning
  • Experience with a recognised international development N.G.O. with a strong campaigning reputation.
  • We’ll help develop your understanding and skills through online training and one to one support with a staff member allocated to you. We’ll teach you foundational community organising tools such as ‘one to one conversations’ and ‘power mapping’ as well as how to run great local campaign actions with your church and wider community
  • You’ll develop your agency and leadership in making change happen

We've see it work!

We’ve seen Christian Aid campaigners use organising tools to discover allies in their churches they never knew existed. They took the time to talk, find shared concerns and moved each other into action. By doing so they’ve made their churches take positive steps in taking action on issues of poverty and climate justice.

There were different types of people and ages and backgrounds new to campaigning or done it for years. Everyone had something to bring in terms of knowledge to take home. It was a real treat

- Rachael, Climate Campaign Organiser..

How much time do I need to give?

The Cohort will run for six months from Monday 20 June 2022 and you will need to be able to commit to this period of time. As a minimum you will need to give 10 hours each month to this role. This would be a combination volunteering, training and mentor check ins. You can find all the details of training dates and time requirements in the volunteer role description.

There is a greater time requirement around training at the start of the scheme. Volunteer hours in your role will ebb and flow so you may find that some periods are busier than others, for example if you are running an event.

Building power and making change takes time – that’s why we’re inviting you to spend 6 months with us to invest in the movement for climate justice.

Apply today!

Our world is crying out for justice, the earth groans for restoration. If you want to be part of creating change and want to find ways to bring others with you then apply today via the Christian Aid website.
