Christian Aid Week 2021

This year’s project focuses specifically on young, unemployed people. It is a pilot project, setting up the infrastructure and working with 150 young people in Rumonge (South Burundi). The project is a youth led agricultural initiative, providing irrigation, basic agricultural equipment and hybrid greenhouse/polytunnels growing edible crops including onions, tomatoes & aubergines. After being trained by our local partners, a cooperative will be formed, enabling the beneficiaries to enhance benefits and profits from working together with business support, training, saving and loan schemes. The project also focuses strongly on gender equality, aiming to educate directly and indirectly, the wider community.

This is a gem of a project. The IOM during Christian Aid week are empowering these young people through an education, and the tools they need to make their own start in life. We are gifting them a powerful and precious life changing opportunity, which would not otherwise be possible.

Last year we managed to fully fund the IOM Government’s partnership grant AND the Three Legs beekeeping project. In the two years the projects spanned, you have raised an amazing £107,213.78, every penny of which has gone directly to these projects. Thousands of people have benefited from your generosity. They are healthier, more self-sufficient and empowered. But most importantly they do not feel forgotten, they feel the fruits of love that you have shared with your global neighbour. Thank you.
