Marwood CE Infant School

Marwood CofE Infant School recently took part in Letters for Creation. Using the Letters for Creation lesson plan, the year 2 class explored climate justice together. They learnt about how climate change doesn’t effect everyone equally as people living in poverty around the world face the worst consequences of climate change, and also that some countries hold a greater responsibility than others.

Together with a local artist, Lydia Virgin, the pupils reflected on their learning about climate justice and created their artwork ‘We Are All Connected’. Each pupil’s artwork was incorporated into a collaborative piece with the help of Lydia and school staff. The artwork has been turned into postcards addressed to Rishi Sunak MP, their local representative. The year 2 class have all written their messages of hope and visions of a fairer world to Rishi Sunak and posted them to his constituency office. Additionally, postcards have been given to families at the school to consider sending messages as a family unit and the postcards have been shared with local churches.

Carrying on from their participation in Letters for Creation Marwood Infant School plans to produce some action as part of their Young Leaders Award to help people living in Sri Lanka which has been deeply impacted by Climate change – through a link school in Monaragula which they liaise with.

The school has also been asked to lead worship at the Diocesan Conference in York with the aim of bringing a global dimension to the theme ‘Community of Hope’.
