It would be an understatement to say 2020 was a tough year. From Christian Aid Week to Christmas, the whole calendar was turned upside down, given a shake and thrown back. But nothing would stop our amazing supporters.
After our supporters raised £3.7m for Christian Aid Week during a global pandemic, we were determined to make Christmas 2020 one to remember. One group in particular who learned to adjust to the challenges of the now; was Sheffield Christian Aid.
Adapting traditions
Sheffield Christian Aid would be used to huddling together for warmth by standing outside in the cold city centre beautifully singing carols for passers-by and shoppers to enjoy. Sadly, this just wasn’t possible this year with coronavirus restrictions.
Even though the norm had changed, Sheffield were quick to adapt by moving this wonderful tradition online.
With an initial target of £1000 they set out by blasting all things Christmas from solos including 'Keep the Flame' and 'Down in Yon Forest' to renditions of 'We Wish you a Merry Christmas' as well as a virtual choir singing 'See amid the Winter Snow'.
Sheffield absolutely smashed their target by well over doubling it to over £2500 – a fantastic achievement! Racking up almost 8000 views on their YouTube channel, Sheffield have made a truly memorable Christmas!
