We would like to say a big congratulations to Sale and Davys Church of England Primary School in Barrow upon Trent (Derbyshire) and Dean Hole Church of England Primary School in Caunton (Nottinghamshire). Both have achieved Bronze Award status in our Global Neighbours scheme, recognising their wide-ranging steps to love their global neighbours.
From twinning the toilets in their school and encouraging local community groups to do the same, pupils and staff at Dean Hole Primary School have been helping to tackle global poverty.
At Sale and Davys Primary School, pupils and staff have been working hard to take their place as global citizens by completing activities such as campaigning about the plight of the natural world, to donating food for local people.
These schools join St Michael and All Angels C of E Primary School in Rearsby (Leicestershire) who secured their Bronze Award at the start of 2019, following pupils and staff writing letters to a local business about its plastic use and donating food for local people.
About the Global Neighbours accreditation scheme
Global Neighbours celebrates schools that are helping pupils learn about global poverty and the Christian responsibility to tackle it. It gives them the tools to confidently play a part in creating a fairer world.
Caroline Weir, Education Coordinator at Christian Aid, said: 'The Global Neighbours Scheme was launched in partnership with the Church of England’s Education Office with a vision of helping young people understand more about the inequalities in this world and helping them to become courageous advocates for those who have no voice.
It’s wonderful to see how staff and pupils at these schools have taken this to heart and are seeking to tackle injustice.'
Christian Aid is currently recruiting volunteer teachers to deliver the scheme.
Caroline said: 'Christian Aid is also looking to recruit more volunteer teachers locally to go into schools to help us deliver the scheme.

Is your school eligible to join Global Neighbours?
Any primary school in England can join the Global Neighbours scheme.
There are three levels of accreditation: bronze, silver and gold.
These are verified by Church of England Education Office assessors, who look for evidence across five areas:
- school leadership
- teaching and learning
- collective worship and spiritual development
- pupil participation
- community engagement
