With a rapidly deteriorating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Christian Aid, along with 28 UK organisations have joined together to publish an urgent message in The Times newspaper.

Our message is clear:

The UK Government must do more to prevent more death, destruction and degradation in Gaza.

Advert placed in the Times Ad by Christian Aid and 28 other UK charities calling for the "The UK Government must do more to prevent more death, destruction and degradation in Gaza."

What we're calling for

Our joint message explicitly calls for critical actions:

  1. If we want to save lives, tackle starvation and disease, as well as provide the best opportunity for all the hostages to be released, MPs should support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
  2. If we want to see aid provided at scale for all those in Gaza who need it, MPs should support the resumption of funding to UNRWA and insist on unfettered humanitarian access to ensure that aid reaches all areas of Gaza without hindrance.
  3. If we want to ensure that the body of law established after the Second World War to protect us all is respected, MPs should support the suspension of UK arms sales to those suspected of breaking it, including the Government of Israel.

The grim reality

Recent reports from Gaza paint a harrowing picture.

Just earlier this month, The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced a tragic milestone: over 30,000 Palestinians, including thousands of children, have lost their lives. An event that’s “the logical outcome of the blocking of humanitarian aid, and the lack of safe conditions in which to distribute aid,” says William Bell, Christian Aid's Head of Middle East Policy and Advocacy.

More recently, the UN food agency has warned ‘famine is imminent’ in northern Gaza, where an estimated 70% of the population faces catastrophic hunger of an impending famine.

Civilians in Gaza wait for food from a community kitchen outdoors. Behind them is a build that's been destroyed by airstrikes.

Children in Gaza are dying of malnutrition and disease with desperate families reportedly eating grass to survive. This is suffering on a scale you couldn’t imagine…. How many more lives will be lost to malnutrition, disease and airstrikes before our political leaders see this is the case?’

- Willam Bell.

How can you help?

Join the call to action.

Until the UK government calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and suspends its arms sales to Israel, it’s complicit in the slaughter of innocent civilians taking place every day.

Whether you write, email or meet them, urge them to call on the UK government to:

  • Call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire
  • Halt arms sales to Israel
  • Call out all violations of international humanitarian law
  • Fully fund UN-led aid relief in Gaza

The more our representatives hear our call for them to act, the harder it is for them to ignore.
