Our approach
The initial phase of the appeal focused on responding to the immediate needs of those affected. This included emergency food and water supplies, cash and food vouchers, shelter, water provision and cholera prevention and treatment. In some places, seeds, farming and fishing tools were provided.
Now, the response has moved to the recovery phase, with activities including school feeding programmes, emergency animal health and feeds, WASH and the development of water infrastructure, such as boreholes.

Key achievements
In Kenya, as of end of 2018, 1200 households had received unconditional cash transfers, while in Aweil West, South Sudan, 905 households received vouchers.
In Ethiopia, by the end of 2018, more than 3600 households had been reached, up on the 1000 households targeted. More than 53,000 cattle were vaccinated against disease and infection.
In South Sudan, a further 1,000 households received food rations, while fisher folk groups have been trained on fishing nets mending, fish handling procedures, fish processing and fish preservation methods.
More than 18,000 people have benefited from the provision of 20 new water tanks in Ethiopia.
