The emergency response work has focused on community resilience and disaster risk reduction, strengthening water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) work.

Funding has come from Christian Aid and Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeals and other institutional donors including Irish Aid.

Our aims

To build and strengthen community resilience in affected areas of Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan.

Our approach

The initial phase of the appeal focused on responding to the immediate needs of those affected. This included emergency food and water supplies, cash and food vouchers, shelter, water provision and cholera prevention and treatment. In some places, seeds, farming and fishing tools were provided.

Now, the response has moved to the recovery phase, with activities including school feeding programmes, emergency animal health and feeds, WASH and the development of water infrastructure, such as boreholes.
