Eternal Life

Something to read

... pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

- 1 Timothy 6:11-12.

Something to think about

Eternal life does not only refer to what happens after we die. This reading points to an idea of eternal life as the continual process of being born to a new way of living each day.

As we all know, it is not a one-off event. Every day we stumble and struggle. Every day we need to start again, even if it is only one step forward from yesterday.

We are asked to make the good confession, to speak out about our faith, about what is right and true. We are asked to live as Jesus did and bear witness to injustice. To stand against corruption and violence. We might have got it wrong yesterday but we can try again today. We can indeed take hold of the eternal life to which we are called.

Something to do

Speak out about something that matters to you. Take hold of the Christ-like life you are being called to. You could join a campaign, write to your MP or ask your church to take action on an issue of social justice.
