How do we develop practices of hope?

It can be difficult to remain hopeful in challenging times. Yet Jesus encourages us to have big hopes. How can we develop practices of hope and proclaim that change is possible?

4 people sit and stand around a desk. Text on the desk reads 'change is possible'

On this page you will find everything you need for the fifth session of our Act on Poverty Course.

Our course pack includes:

  • A Bible study on Luke 4.14-21, where Jesus uses the words of the prophet Isaiah to proclaim 'good news' to those in poverty.
  • Audio interviews with Jess Hall, Christian Aid Campaigner, and Carlos Valle, Field Advisor for the Comision de Accion Social Menonita in Honduras
  • A video exploring how the Baptist Union of Wales is linking with projects in Zimbabwe to develop their practices of hope.
  • Ideas for how you and your church can take action on poverty.

Carlos Valle, Field Advisor, Comision de Accion Social Menonita (CASM), Honduras

CASM’s mission is to address economic, social, environmental and political injustice in partnership with communities in Honduras.

CASM is working with coffee farmers and honey producers to develop climate-smart practices as the region feels the effects of the climate crisis.

Hear from Carlos Valle, as he tells us about the hope for the future he sees whilst working with farmers day-to-day.

Jess Hall, Campaigns and Organising Officer, Christian Aid

Jess discusses what drew her into campaigning and what gives her hope for change. She tells us how lament and hope are not opposed for her and how she balances realism about our human failings with faith in the vision of God's Kingdom come on earth.

Hear from Jess about her work with Christian Aid and the signs of hope that she sees in our world.

*Please note, there has been a change to the original audio content. It now features Christian Aid's campaigns and organising officer, Jess Hall
