What happened

In October 2015, South Sudan faced its worst food crisis, with some 30% of the population urgently in need of food and security.

Years of conflict had disrupted harvests, collapsed the economy and caused food and fuel prices to rise. Amid these severe humanitarian needs, conflict and human rights abuses also continued.

We scaled up our emergency response to provide desperately needed support.

What we achieved

Through our local partners, we:

  • Provided cash grants to 950 families, so they could immediately buy food and basic necessities.
  • Provided safe drinking water to over 70,000 people alongside hygiene promotion and sanitation awareness.
  • Provided seeds and tools to 2,300 families to help them improve their livelihoods.
  • Engaged communities to help build peace and increase their ability to resolve conflict.

Our work with the most vulnerable households in South Sudan continues.
