Bluezone headlines in numbers

As COP finishes its first working week, we take a look at what’s happening in the Blue Zone and beyond.

10 – Japan has pledged $10billion to clean energy
20 - More than 20 countries will end overseas fossil fuel financing by the end of 2022
40 - More than 40 countries commit to shift away from coal – but some of the big players are still on the fence
85 – a new global deforestation deal has been struck which will cover 85% of the world’s forests.
90 – A new methane deal has been agreed by 90 countries.

But there is still work to do:

  • This is an exclusive COP with civil society and faith organisations restricted from the negotiation rooms.
  • UK Government has not yet pledged to end fossil fuel investments.
  • There is still no commitment to reach 1.5C target
  • Climate justice is the key to real change. Finance for climate loss and damage must be on the agenda COP26 and all future COPs.

There can be no climate justice if we continue our reliance on fossil fuels. People in developing countries already affected directly now can’t wait.
