As a large international organisation, it is unfortunately inevitable that our brand will be used by third parties to attempt to solicit money or information from those who support and work with us.

Sadly, there will always be people willing to take advantage of the generosity of our supporters by fraudulently collecting on a charity’s behalf, especially when there has been a disaster.

We must all be extremely vigilant to ensure that any communication purporting to be from Christian Aid is actually from us.

Things to watch out for include:

  • Job adverts that require you to pay a fee to apply - we will never ask for a fee to apply for any position with Christian Aid. 
  • An email taking you to a fake website where you are asked for your credit card details.
  • A request to donate cash through money transfer companies such as Western Union.
  • An offer of a position collecting money on our behalf for a percentage of what you collect.
  • An e-mail from an address similar to us, but not actually ours, such as: 
    jbloggs@christian--aid.org (using a double, rather than single hyphen) or 
    joe.bloggs@christian-aid.org (using the full name rather than our standard format of initial then last name).
  • Emails asking you to transfer money in order to free up an inheritance / lottery win or to release Christian Aid goods trapped in transit.

Fake job and volunteering adverts in Uganda

It has come to our attention that a scammer has been advertising volunteering roles with 'Christian Aid Uganda' and asking for a fee to apply for these roles. We will never ask for money to apply for any position with Christian Aid, whether paid or voluntary.

Please be wary of schemes which ask for a fee to apply for a job with Christian Aid.

Christianaidweek.org fraudulent website

It has come to our attention that adverts have been running on Google that claim to be for Christian Aid Week, directing people to christianaidweek.org. As stated on this website, it is not affiliated to Christian Aid so please do not make a donation there. We are investigating this urgently and making every effort to have this site taken down.

Actions you should take

If you are suspicious about any contact from Christian Aid, whether it is by email, text, face to face in the street or at the door, please do not respond and contact us, as soon as you can, on +44 (0) 20 7620 4444.

Please also immediately report suspicious emails to emailscam@christian-aid.org

If you receive any unsolicited email alleging to be collecting for Christian Aid:

  • Do not respond to it because you then confirm your address is active.
  • Do not open any attachments or click on any links in the email.
  • Do not provide any personal details.
  • Do not forward it to anybody except to the Christian Aid email scam box.

If you think you may have compromised the safety of your bank details, you should immediately contact your bank.
