How we help in Nigeria
We believe partnership is the best way to create lasting change. It's at the heart of all our work.
We partner with a network of churches, organisations and people of all faiths and none, to deliver life-changing programmes with communities in Nigeria. That could be improving access to essential healthcare, supporting disaster-hit areas with critical food and nutrition, or holding government to account over vital services they provide. These partnerships have allowed us to provide humanitarian relief to over 400,000 displaced people since 2016.

Humanitarian
Alarming insecurity and violence in northern Nigeria has led to millions of people being displaced and losing their source of income.
Our strategic partnerships support us to provide a timely and lifesaving response to people affected by conflict. Together, we’ve worked to improve quality of life for the future, and build fair livelihoods and peaceful communities.

A United Nations-funded livelihood project saw tree seedlings – including mango, orange and guava – distributed to over 1,600 households, including over 1,300 women, in Borno State. Tree planting is part of efforts to mitigate the impact of the climate crisis, and also an opportunity for families to increase their livelihoods from the sale of the fruits.

A programme with the Start Network saw 420 households evacuated from high-risk locations in Kogi and Benue States.

Our emergency response through a World Food Programme-funded project reached over 22,700 households and over 28,500 individuals in Borno State, contributing to improved food security.
Governance
Our work to improve the relationship between citizens and the Nigerian government stems from the fact that many projects for local communities are implemented based on perceived needs rather than actual needs. That’s why we’re amplifying community voices and supporting them to set the development agenda for what they need. Our combined efforts are creating lasting change on policies and practices.

We worked with two states through the European Commission-funded Disaster Risk Reduction and Social Safety project to develop an emergency response to support over 55,000 people in the case of flooding.

The Inclusive and Participatory Governance Systems programme aimed to increase the involvement of women, young people and disabled people in decision-making processes. Training and awareness raising saw over 4,300 Permanent Voters’ Cards collected across target communities in Anambra and Kaduna States, increasing community participation in the electoral process.

The Side by Side movement for gender justice enabled us to strategically engage faith and traditional leaders who use their platforms to advocate for gender justice. States where this takes place include Lagos, Ondo, Ekiti, Kano, Imo, Anambra and Kaduna, along with the Federal Capital Territory.

The Universal Health Coverage Project supported 440 people to enrol in the State Social Health Insurance Scheme in Nasarawa State.

The Partnership Against Vaccine Hesitancy in Nigeria project achieved an 18% increase in the national uptake of Covid-19 vaccines – up from 36% in November 2022 when the project started, to 54% in February 2023.
