Delivering impactful change through a consortium: The good, the bad, the better

Working in consortiums is not a new concept within the international development sector. It is an implementation model that has been employed by several organizations in a bid to effectively deliver development projects while strengthening collaboration and building sustainable engagement. It can also be of great benefit for attracting good funding as funding bodies are recently encouraging and prioritizing consortiumship.

In line with our commitment to partnerships, strengthening local organizations and localization such as the Grand Bargain, Charter4Change and Pledge for Change, Christian Aid Nigeria’s consortium experience has historically been with national and community-based organisations.

This paper presents lessons on a consortium of International Development Organisations, using the consortium of Christian Aid and COOPI as a case study. We have reflected on what worked and what did not work well and provided a few recommendations that can support organizations seeking to work in a similar context to achieve greater impacts.
