‘I don’t need to dread the day’
Sheila sadly lost her mum Eileen in 2023. For more than 40 years, Eileen organised Christian Aid Week house-to-house collections through her church in East London.
Sheila reflects on Mothering Sunday without her mum this year. She speaks of how much Christian Aid meant to her mum Eileen and what a comfort it is to give in her memory now.
On this special day, we remember the mothers and exceptional women who are no longer with us, but who have had a positive influence in our lives.
Eileen and Christian Aid
'Mum admired Christian Aid’s principles,’ says Eileen’s daughter, Sheila.
‘As a child, she lived through the Second World War. So she believed in justice and peace – and caring for others.'
Eileen’s support of Christian Aid makes Sheila feel proud. This Mothering Sunday Sheila is remembering her mum through a gift in memory to Christian Aid.
Through Christian Aid’s special Mothering Sunday dedication page, like Sheila you too can remember and honour the special women who are no longer with us, but who have shaped who we are today.
Last Mothering Sunday many people left heartfelt messages as well as a wonderful donation, some even shared a picture.
Your loved one’s light will shine on through Christian Aid’s community-led projects. Standing with mothers and their communities around the world to make change that lasts—no matter how tough it gets.
Your special gift in memory will support hope, dignity and justice in other people’s lives. You'll be supporting our local partners, who know the needs of their communities best, to help people to overcome the challenges they face.
On this special day, we remember the mothers and exceptional women who are no longer with us, but who have had a positive influence in our lives.
